CONFERENCE CITY
Sestri Levante is a town in Liguria, Italy. Lying on the Mediterranean Sea, it is approximately 56 kilometers south of Genova and is set on a promontory. While Portofino and the Cinque Terre are probably the most well known tourist destinations on the Italian Riviera, Sestri Levante is becoming quite a favorite among Italians. This once quiet fishing village is slowly turning into a tourist hotspot, developing an old and a new town, known and appreciated for the charm of its heritage centre, for the beauty of its bathing site and for the fantastic natural scenery. Sestri is characterised, in fact, by the two very famous bays, the Baia delle Favole (Bay of Fables) and the Baia del Silenzio (Bay of Silence), that, divided by a rocky promontory called "Island", face one Manara Point and the other Tigullio. Our conference center is located on the Baia del Silenzio, the atmosphere is cosy and romantic, still tied to the customs of fishing that has always represented an important economical resource for Sestri. The heritage centre is crossed by narrow alleys (carruggi) and is rich of antique buildings, of Renaissance style with splendid portals in slate of the 16th century, hidden balconies and gardens. The narrow passage called "budello", XXV April Street, is an old street where elegant shops, taverns and typical restaurants alternate. The hinterland of Sestri Levante stands out for the presence of many villas and luxury houses that were the holiday houses of the powerful rulers of Genoa and represented the first examples of rural inhabited areas, a medieval announcement of the modern agricultural village. Immersed in the typical Mediterranean scenery, composed of vines, olive trees and chestnut-trees, Balbi Villa, Cattaneo della Volta Villa, Chiarella Villa, Fieschi Villa, Gualino Villa, Rimassa Villa are a few of these magnificent houses that have always stood out for their grand architecture and for the parks and gardens that surround them. .. |
